Basic Sciences Medical Faculty and Their Challenges to Compassionate Teaching

Basic sciences teaching faculty are important in combatting the mental health issues facing M1/M2 medical students. These key helping students through basic by identifying those that struggling, guiding them to necessary resources, reassuring they can attain their qualifications, and encouraging engage active learning. Many of these also fulfill official mentorship roles within curriculum advise on academic career aspects school pathway. However, overwhelmed institutional expectations (e.g., research) student considerations poor behavior, negative evaluations). The result is struggling balance all expectations, with experiences such as inappropriate behavior toxic academia severely affecting leading a noticeable increase instances burnout compassion fatigue.
